The Raja Rani temple can be seen on the way to Brahmeswar temple, near Kedargouri in old Bhubaneswar. This temple was completed during 10th century A. D. This temple, bears the testimony of ancient Orissan temple art, is a smooth co-ordination of serious innocence. On the Jagamohana of this temple of Rekha type, the decorations therein create a fantastic opposite vision vis-à-vis the varieties decorations in the main temple. The pillars in its entrance are circular & the seven expanded hood of a cobra snake have been weaved around it. In the foot portion, there are three cats image available. In the upper portion of door frame, there is the image of nine planets and in the middle portion of the Jamb there is a conventional image of Goddess Gaja Laxmi. The beautiful architecture of Jagamohana, specially its Gandi's separate construction, has given a special status to Raja Rani. As the whole temple structure appears to be like the conglomeration of Angasikharas or the temple tops like many small temples, it easily attracts the visitor. In the crest of its Angasikhara, the two Amalaka's are visible. These two aspects, easily reminds the visitor of the Khajuraho temple of Madhya Pradesh. Many rising images and hanging Angasikhara's has given a circular shape to the temple. In its Pabhaga, at five stages, pictorial plates can be seen. The middle bind consists of two plates which is full of craftsmanship, divides the Jangha portion of the temple in to two segments. Both the corners of lower and upper Jangha and the middle portion of ratha are divided manifold. In every Jangha the pictures of flowers and creepers enhances its beauty. The images of the Asthadigapalas or the regents of the eight quarters in the Raja Rani are a specialty of the temple. At the starting point of the lower Jangha the images of the Asthadigapala's has been placed like in the name of: Indra, Agni, Yama, Biniti, Baruna, Bayu, Kubera & Isana. Around the niches meant for the Parswa Devata's. the craftsmanship is an example of perfect handicraft. The other special attraction of Raja Rani is its women images placed in its decor. The dancing postures of the noble, slim heroines, creates sensation within the body and mind of the beholders. In every image, the stamp of ancient Orissan handicraft can be seen.
